The next step to growing plants in Dull Dusks is botany. It allows you to grow a wide variation of blocks from plants, which you will need to breed from others. The system is rather coplicated, so an explanation might be required.
To breed crops, you need to put crop sticks around them. Do this by throwing 4 sticks on the block your plant is currently on. This will not give the plant any advantages other than be able to get the seeds from the special plants.
Putting an occupied crop stick next to an empty crop stick will start the basic breeding process. There is a 50% chance of getting the wanted plant, and a 50% chance of getting shrubbery, which has no use and needs to be removed before any plant can grow. For the more special plants, a block underneath the empty crop stick is required in order to mutate the plant into a specific species.
The following are all the breeds you can make (all "parent" plants are on crop sticks):
Some plants have different fruits (blocks which the plant grows) based on what block is put on the spot where the fruit will go (on top of the plant)
This is so with the sand and the grass crop.
The sand crop will grow red sand if you put netherrack on top, and will grow gravel if you put cobblestone on top.
The grass crop will grow podzol if you put coarse dirt on top, and will grow cursed earth if you put obsidian on top. (see picture)
